Stake joins Alberta’s regulated online casino market, three months after launch

Stake is now part of Alberta’s regulated online casino market. As of 15 October 2026, the Alberta iGaming Corporation’s registered-sites list includes Stake, linking to ab.stake.ca. AGLC lists Stake Canada Ltd. as an iGaming operator until 24 September 2027. The market opened on 13 July, so the listing came about three months later.

What changed?

Through 12 October, desk checks found Stake Canada Ltd. on AGLC’s register but no Stake site on AiGC’s list. The latest check finds Stake on AiGC’s registered-sites list, with its Visit Site link going to ab.stake.ca.

The original 24 September story follows, with its dated checks. See our dated register check.

How does Alberta’s market work?

Alberta’s regulated market went live on 13 July 2026 under the iGaming Alberta Act. An operator must be registered with AGLC and hold a commercial agreement with AiGC. PlayAlberta operates alongside the private sites. The minimum age is 18.

AiGC said 22 sites were approved on launch day, and estimated that about 70 per cent of online gambling in Alberta had gone to offshore sites.

“Alberta is taking an important step forward with the launch of a regulated iGaming market,” Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally said in the launch announcement.

What did Stake say before the listing?

On 24 September, a Stake.com support agent told an Alberta account holder that ab.stake.ca was expected to launch on 6 October. That date passed without a listing.

The same day, Stake Canada general manager Kris Abbott told Canadian Gaming Business: “We’re a registered operator as of today and we expect that licensing and an operating agreement are not too far behind.”

What did earlier reports say?

On launch day, Blask reported that Stake, Roobet and Rainbet had not applied and were absent from the AGLC registry. In July 2024, Easygo’s Canada country manager told Covers that Alberta was “on Stake’s radar.”

As of 16 October 2026, Roobet and Rainbet are not on AiGC’s list or AGLC’s registrant export.

What licence does stake.com hold?

Medium Rare N.V. holds Curaçao licence OGL/2024/1451/0918, according to Stake’s terms. The same terms list Ontario as a prohibited jurisdiction.

On 22 September, the Curaçao Chronicle, citing Follow the Money, reported questions about the company’s ultimate ownership when that licence was granted.

How does TrustFacts rate Stake?

Stake.com scores 98 on our rest-of-Canada file, tested 28 September. ab.stake.ca has not been scored. The full assessment is in the Stake review.
